Has software problem
The D3000 has a software problem.

I have contacted Nikon about this to no Avail.

If you have the Auto ISO set to 1600 and Auto ISO in the ON mode, The camera will default to ISO 1600 when using flash in the Program mode.

This makes excessive "noise" in photos.

The camera SHOULD select a much lower ISO setting, when taking photos with flash in Program mode.

To prove this take a photo as described above, then on preview check to see what ISO the camera chose. It will idicate ISO 1600 in RED.

Example: Set ISO AUTO ON and limit at 1600, take a photo in Program mode indoors of a subject about 5-10 feet distance. Your D3000 will expose at ISO 1600.

Otherwise I have found the camera to be excellent.

Non-Technical Review From A Not-So-Expert Photographer
I love my new camera! Most people who want a really nice camera but don't want to devote their life to photography will probably find this model will be an excellent choice. It's a step up from point-and-shoot, but doesn't require that you make photography an obsession or even a serious hobby.

This review is for those of you, like me, who aren't and don't necessarily want to be technical experts on the subject of photography. We have enough to be concerned about and just want a good camera that will take great pictures without a lot of fuss or serious study.

Years ago I studied photography and had some experience, if not expertise. Then I decided I just wanted a point-and-click for a while. This time I wanted one step above the point-and-click, but I really don't feel the need to be overly creative right now. This model has the ability to do a lot more than I will ever do with it.

While it would be fun to just whip out one of those point-and-clicks which I could always carry around in my purse, my son told me I would be happy about a minute and a half with it, so I choose this one. I'm so glad I did.

Nikon is my favorite brand in cameras and I wasn't disappointed. The quality of the camera is excellent and the instructions are clear, as long as you take them step-by-step, not that I ever do that. I bought this camera and a photo printer and some other electronics all at the same time and was overwhelmed with user manuals, instructions, etc. That's because my personality demands that I do too much at once. Just take it one step at a time and I think you'll love this camera, even if you are an electronic klutz like me.

New Buyer Review - so far so good! Lovin it!
This is my first DSLR so my review is geared towards the newby audience such as myself. This camera takes great pictures and easy to play around at first. I really appreciated the professional reviews, but some tend to forget that this is an ENTRY-Level DSLR and should be treated as such fairly. I am impressed with the build quality and the lens kit. Right away, I charged up the battery which only took an hour and 30 min. and then I started shooting away at my kids playing and my pets. I also took a couple of macro pics which turned out nice and detailed - considering these were shot using the AUTO mode and in the evening - indoors. I find this camera quite satisfying for my everyday needs - a definite step up from my Canon point and shoot - I still use those for social settings and not bulky. The D3000 learning curve is easy when you use the auto mode, but the guide mode helps too for more features - then you have the manual mode which I am interested in for those cutom shots. The camera is not that heavy and fits nicely on my hands. The battery life is good - but always have a spare - which should be standard these days. There is NO video mode so keep that in mind...whats the point? And I heard the video mode for the D5000 is an after thought. This is stricly still photos, folks! So far so good - I can't wait to try out outdoors, which this camera is supposed to excel at!

great beginners camera
this is a great camera if youre starting in the dsl world. the lens'capability is limited, you have to start thinking about saving up for other lenses depending on your style. the on camera guide is really helpfull the first two to tree sesions, but once you out grow it you dont notice its even there. great purchase.

Perfect family camera
I purchased this camera for my husband for Christmas to replace a Nikon cool pix camera that we have had for the past 2 years. It was well worth the money and takes fantastic pictures. I love that there is no delay. Very happy with this purchase!
